George Akins comes to Gulf Coast Electric as a retired Air Force Officer – a combat veteran with over 23 years of active duty service. Originally from Tampa, FL, George was assigned to the area as a Special Operations Navigator in 1999 and has been here ever since.
He has held numerous staff and leadership positions leading multi-member teams possessing a wide variety of professional backgrounds. George Akins is Gulf Coast Electric’s Co-Owner, and manages our award-winning company as Chief Operating Officer. With a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, George’s responsibilities covers the full spectrum of running a successful business to include leading our 12-member team, planning and developing our market strategy and sales, overseeing finance & accounting, addressing legal & human resources issues, and above all, assuring Gulf Coast Electric’s premier customer service is sustained. George ensures this is accomplished by carefully reviewing each and every customer feedback received, and striving to continually live up to Gulf Coast Electric’s Mission statement: “Unique in our passion for excellence in achieving Total Customer Satisfaction.”
Co-Owner/Chief Executive Officer
After graduation from Purdue University with an electrical engineering degree, Darrell Taylor began his career as a design engineer creating patented robotics and electrical controls for various applications which many are still in use today.
From there, Darrell created and then operated an engineering and information technology department of a 1.2M sq ft facility of a major auto manufacturer while earning his MBA. Upon completion of his MBA, Darrell accepted a position as a program manager with a conglomerate Government contractor. In his career, Darrell obtained his Professional Engineering license in order to work for the public. Darrell founded a real estate investment company focused on reconstruction, rehabilitation, and leasing of properties. Darrell then partnered with a merger and acquisition firm with over 30 years of M&A experience. Together with Darrell’s expertise in financial analysis, operational structures, business plan creation/packaging, an MBA, and a technical engineering background, he made the company one of the best firms in the area. Darrell is currently president of Premier Media Technologies, Destin’s highest-ranked luxury home automation systems contractor. Based in Destin, Florida, Premier Media Technologies is northwest Florida’s leading provider of custom home theater, audio, video, security, and home automation solutions. Darrell joins Gulf Coast Electric as co-owner and CEO to provide guidance and vision to the unequaled sophistication, professionalism, and respectability that is the history of Gulf Coast Electric. In his spare time, Darrell enjoys rebuilding antique pinball machines, traveling, hiking, hockey, and a small history of improvisational acting.
Jeff R. Linn
Founder / Advisory Board Chairman
In 1979 Jeff R. Linn graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois and relocated to Destin, Florida. Mr. Linn took a job as an electricians helper with a small local electrical contracting firm and advanced rapidly to job foreman.
In 1980 Mr. Linn opened his own electrical contracting business, Gulf Coast Electric. The company operated out of a small garage/office located on Holiday Isle in Destin. In 1984 the company incorporated to J. R. Linn Electric Inc. d/b/a Gulf Coast Electric. A few years later the company had grown to over 35 employees, 25 trucks and operated out of a 3,000 sq. ft. office/warehouse located on Commerce Drive in the heart of Destin. Mr. Linn is a State of Florida Certified Licensed Electrical Contractor. Gulf Coast Electric was responsible for millions of dollars of electrical work in the surrounding communities both residential and commercial. The company at that time was split into three divisions with a manager for each division. Residential Division providing electrical wiring of custom homes and renovations, Commercial Division and Service Division providing all types of electrical service work. Today Mr. Linn is still involved with the everyday operations of the company on a much smaller scale as the company is primarily involved in Electrical Service work. Today however just as he was over 30 years ago, Mr. Linn Still deeply cares and feels a responsibility for each and every customers utmost satisfaction along with the well being of the employees of Gulf Coast Electric.
Vice President / Operations Manager
Don Joiner began doing electrical work in 1973 after a four year tour of duty in the US Army. In 1980, Don opened an electrical contracting company in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and ran the company until 1990. Don has held a Master Electrician license with the State of Florida.
In June of 1991, Don went to work at Gulf Coast Electric as the company supervisor and estimator and was later promoted to Vice President/Operations Manager. Don has been happily working at Gulf Coast Electric for the past two decades. Like Mr. Linn, Don has enjoyed helping to build the business over the years and he views customer satisfaction as one of the most important aspects of building and maintaining a strong business and good customer relations.
Dale reaves is the Service Manager for Gulf Coast Electric.
Dale Reaves is our Service Manager at Gulf Coast Electric. Dale is a highly experienced electrician pushing nearly a quarter-century of experience in the electrical industry. Dale joined Gulf Coast Electric in 2005 as a service electrician after running his own electrical service company. On top of managing our technicians and clients, he is responsible for the daily scheduling of our electricians as well as communicating with our valued customers assuring their electrical needs are met.
Ron Bowyer is the Regional Manager for Gulf Coast Electric.
Ron Bowyer is our Regional Manager for Panama City Beach. Ron began his career as a Service Electrician in 1996. With over 20 years of electrical experience, Ron is responsible for all service-related aspects of our company in the PCB area. Ron serves as our key estimator for electrical service requests in the field.
Renae Labrie is the Comptroller for Gulf Coast Electric.
Our Comptroller is Renae Labrie. Renae possesses over 15 years of accounting and administrative support experience in her office career. She is responsible for the financial oversight of Gulf Coast Electric. Renae’s specialties are accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing. Renae joins our Office Manager with serving our customer’s requests, service scheduling, and many other additional customer service aspects of Gulf Coast Electric.
Tami Simpson is the Office Manager for Gulf Coast Electric.
Tami Simpson is our Office Manager in charge of the daily operations in the office. Tami proudly and personally answers our calls when our clients are in need of professional electrical service. She processes work orders and schedules work to be performed. Tami is responsible for management of all our county and municipality code enforcement, permitting, and licensing. Tami provides exemplary customer service skills as she truly enjoys working with people and taking care of each and every customer. Tami has 20+ years experience working in office management and customer service and provides clients with the best personal attention.
Warehouse Manager/ Purchasing Agent
Ken Lesko is the Purchasing Agent / Warehouse Manager for Gulf Coast Electric.
Mr. Lesko is responsible for materials procurement and inventory control for not only the companies warehouse but also the inventory control of the companies service fleet of vehicles. He is in charge of shipping and receiving and provides delivery support for field electricians along with being in charge of vehicle fleet maintenance. Mr. Lesko is extremely resourceful and talented in finding hard to locate electrical materials and components. He brings years of experience to Gulf Coast Electric having been in charge of Purchasing and inventory control at other businesses before joining Gulf Coast Electric in 1997.
